Is Positive Thinking and Luck Just Fluff?

Positive thinking and luck…are they both airy-fairy concepts?  Are they real?  Why do you care?  How can you use them both to your best advantage!

Do you wonder if there’s any way that you can turn your thoughts around without feeling…well…foo-foo about it?

Let’s start with what the “power of positive thinking” actually is, shall we?  It’s been defined as having an optimistic attitude, and has even pegged as a specific technique unto itself for changing one’s attitude and fostering optimism so that more positive results can be achieved in one’s life.

So…who doesn’t want some of that?

Of course, you may want some of that, but you may simultaneously believe that it won’t really work for you.  Well, it can’t be that easy, you say.  Then everyone would do it and everyone would be happy all the time.  Right?

But not everyone makes the choice to do it, for a variety of reasons.  The way in which we think is often very deeply ingrained and therefore changing it won’t be as easy as flipping a light switch on and off to get certain results.  It doesn’t mean that change cannot be accomplished, though; it’ll just be a challenge.  You have to know that going in and you really need to be patient…persistent in terms of seeking change, of course, but patient all the same.

But the need for you to change your mindset comes down to this–do you want your thoughts to consist of trash or treasure?  Do you want to marinate in misery or grill up some good in your life?

Be willing to ditch your doubt and simply strive to be as positive as a proton.  Protons are subatomic particles with a positive electric charge and are part of the building blocks of everything in the universe.  So no matter what you do, where you go and what you may encounter, there is literally something positive in it.

You have to strive to get out of the negative default mode that your brain is in and create new grooves in the wood that is your soul, where positive thoughts (and ultimately positive actions) can have more room to run.  But in doing so you must acknowledge that there is positivity inside of you just waiting to be harnessed for your highest and best use.

That’s not to say that things will be 100% positive all the time….  Please.  We all know that isn’t happening!

But what can happen is that no matter what, you focus on the best outcome, the gift in the garbage, the lesson to be learned and keep moving forward, with your thoughts and actions harnessed to whatever positive outcome is possible under those circumstances.

Even a perfectly positive proton can be forced to bond to an electron (which is negative) under extreme low temperatures.  However, it doesn’t mean that the proton itself becomes negative under those circumstances.  It doesn’t.

So, no matter how negative your circumstances are, keep in mind that it is literally impossible for there to be a complete vacuum in terms of potential positivity.  It’s there, no matter what.  You may have to overcome extreme low points in your life to reach it, but trapped under the ice of your situation is the positive proton power waiting for you to break through, harness and use it.

So…wait.  Where does luck factor in again?

Luck favors the prepared.  By fine-tuning your mind to harness positivity and make it work for you and your WHY, you will prepare your mind to be open to take advantage of any opportunity that comes your way to achieve your S.M.A.A.R.T. goals so  that positive outcomes aren’t just believable…they’re achievable.

Professor Richard Wiseman, who created a “Luck School,” helped people to maximize the opportunities of their lives by teaching techniques to specifically harness positivity and luck.  One such technique involved students keeping “luck diaries” where a few moments a day were spent recording all positive and lucky events.  They were specifically advised not to write down anything negative or unlucky.  One month later, Dr. Wiseman found that the students reported it was “difficult not to be thinking about the good things that are happening.”  People felt happier, luckier and more positive and their lives in fact reflected much of the students’ thoughts.

It is often said that luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity…in life and in game, a well-prepared player is lucky often.  Preparation, in terms of winning the game of life, is pre-framing your mind for a positive outcome and being open to all that surrounds you as possibly containing the seed of that desired outcome.

You have to be willing to recognize that, just like the positive proton, those seeds really and truly are everywhere…even though they may not be obvious to the naked eye.
