focus versus luck

Focus on What’s Important to Get Luckier in Life!

Do you want to have greater luck in one step?  Seriously…why not?  Well, you can be luckier by improving your skills in one area alone:  focus.

Luck–and even survival–depends on being able to focus on what’s important.

Improving your focus sounds simple, but it’s not.  (Good news, it’s not impossible either!)  Studies show that the average human being has an eight second attention span, which is about that of a goldfish’s.  For real.

So how do we improve our focus if we’re so poor at focusing in the first place?

The truly good news is that you can treat focus like a muscle; right now your focus may be flabby, but you can build it up daily to the point where it’s super strong.  And the stronger your focus is on what’s important, the luckier you’ll be…because at the end of the day, we make our own luck.  Luck truly is the residue of design.

First, understand where your focus needs to be.

If you’ve been following along on this blog, then you know that it’s your WHY.

Knowing your WHY will help narrow the field of what you’re otherwise paying attention to in your life so that you know to concentrate on what really matters to you…what will really satisfy your soul.

According to Ron Webb, an executive director at the American Productivity and Quality Center, “Success comes down to embedding that focus into the flow of how you work.”

So, knowing your WHY will help you focus not just your attention but your efforts.  There’s only 24 hours a day and ideally you’re sleeping for at least 7-8 of those hours, so you’re down to about 16-17 hours daily to get things done.  Why squander a moment?

UNLESS you (wisely) spend at least some moments getting “grounded and centered” where you clear your mind to pray, meditate, or just connect with yourself quietly and calmly.  Paradoxically, the time you spend hitting the reset button of life assists you in terms of calming down and concentrating throughout the rest of your waking hours.

Luck favors the prepared.  In order to prepare, you have to know what you’re focusing on (a/k/a your WHY) and then design a route to get from “here” where you are right now to “there,” which is where you want to be living, at peace and in harmony with your WHY.  The best way to travel that route is through the achievement of believable and achievable S.M.A.A.R.T. goals that you set with your WHY in mind.

Warning:  Your focus can’t be too laser-like, or you’ll miss out on the serendipitous opportunities that allow for your WHY to be achieved even faster and/or easier than you ever could have originally imagined.

But improving your focus in terms of what really matters to you will provide the proper blueprint by which your awesome future is designed in the first place.
