Desire is the Fire of Life

Desire. It’s a hot and heavy thing.

Desire between two people…very hot and heavy!

You can imagine desire between two people.  In fact, if you’re experiencing intense desire for someone right now, you know it makes you feel awake and alive.  You can’t wait to see that person again.  You can’t wait to enjoy them, to rapturously attend every waking moment you can with them.

But here’s an important question….

Do you have that sort of desire when it comes to, in a global sense, living your own life?

Do you feel awake and alive?  Are you rapturously attending every waking moment in your life?

Or is the thrill of living gone?

It’s critical that you have desire for living your life to the fullest, or your existence is going to consist of simply of dragging yourself through the days.  We all deserve better than that.

So how to infuse desire back into your life?

You’ve gotta start somewhere.  Hyman Schachtel once said, “Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have.”

This is a foundational sentiment for the first of a seven-step process to find happiness in your life again:

STEP ONE:  Assess what you already have in life and be grateful for it.

When was the last time you looked at what you’ve already got in life and recognized that there are people who have far less than you do?  Take the time to do this; you might be surprised to find how good you feel when you’re done!

STEP TWO:  Take stock of your accomplishments to date.

Most women spend so much time cataloging everything they’ve done wrong that many of them never (or almost never) give themselves credit for what they’ve done right.  Time to turn that sad trend around, no?

STEP THREE:  Get rock solid on your WHY, your reason for living.

Ultimately, your WHY should provide you with all of the inspiration you need to go from surviving life to thriving in it.

STEP FOUR:  Look at your S.M.A.A.R.T. goals and determine whether they’re still applicable to where you’re at in life now, and whether they’re believable and achievable?

If you have no goals for your life, no wonder you feel lost and adrift.  But you have to carefully craft your goals and refer to them on a daily basis.

STEP FIVE:  Examine the lives of people who inspire you; what about the way they live their lives fires you up inside?  

Take notes as you investigate your heroes and role models.  Do their belief systems inspire you?  Do the methods by which they’ve found success provide you with crib notes for living your life?  What excites you about them?  Now…what (or who) can you download or channel into your life to achieve similar results?  How can you use the HEROINE acronym to your advantage?

STEP SIX:  Amass a Dream Team of people who can serve as real-life support and/or mentors for you mentally, physically, emotionally, financially and spiritually.

You’ll sometimes meet those people by networking with your FRANKS and the FRANKS of those FRANKS; do anything you can to meet new people and follow up with the most promising ones for best success!

STEP SEVEN:  Use the buddy system of life to keep you attached and engaged to the process of living life to its highest and best potential.

Whether you have folks in tangible form to do this with or you have to find them online or both, don’t skip this step.  Join a community that will lift you up, support you when you’re down and find life hacks to help you get back up again.  You’re not alone unless you choose to be.  And as that buddy system supports you–and eventually, ideally, you give back to it by supporting others–you’ll find that life’s a whole lot more attractive than you originally thought.

Ultimately, you may just have that super-sexy, fun-loving and titillating feeling about living your life in general, just like you may have had (or currently have) desire for another person.

But what’s really sexy is that you get to enjoy your beloved life 24/7, as you spend more time with yourself than any other human being in the world.  Now that’s a love of a lifetime, literally and figuratively!
