Sweat the BIG Stuff to Improve Your Luck!

Luck and Blood, Sweat & Tears…and…(say what?)…Thomas Jefferson?

There’s a whole bunch of words you never thought’d be strung together in the same sentence.  Am I right?

Thomas Jefferson is credited as saying “I am a great believer in luck, and I find that the harder I work, the more I have of it.”

Luck is often defined as Labor Under Correct Knowledge.  By being patient, working persistently and consistently, and having a positive attitude where you expect positive results, you can train your brain to concentrate on everything that will match up with your pre-programmed expectations. In fact, you can train your brain’s reticular activating system to do this in the background, systematically, for best results.

So, sure, the more blood, sweat and tears you pour into the achievement of your S.M.A.A.R.T. goals so that you may more effectively live in harmony with your WHY, the luckier you’ll be at the end of the day.  Why?  You’re more likely to achieve your goals and be happier as a result.

What’s not lucky about that?

But you know that you have to pour in blood, sweat and tears to get there (maybe not always, but often enough)…and…well…it’s just so hard to stay the course and pay those dues.  Nobody wants to do it!

So how to get past that hump in the first place?

The first step to a winning, lucky attitude is to expect to win and be lucky.  And you should be able to draw inspiration from your WHY, your reason for living…it should light you up inside.  It should give you the energy to put out the blood, sweat and tears necessary to get where you have to go.  When you connect your winning attitude to your motivation, then you will persevere until you succeed.

If you expect to lose, however, you’ll never have the motivation to keep plugging away, day after day, putting out all of that effort and making all of the related sacrifices to achieve your S.M.A.A.R.T. goals and in live harmony with your WHY.

The saying is right: “Commitment means staying loyal to what you said you were going to do, long after the mood you said it in has left you.”  Once the ecstasy is over, so to speak, reality sets in…and your reality will remain unchanged if you don’t persistently and consistently forge a new path to the achievement of your goals, one day at a time, one moment at a time, until you enjoy success.

The harder you work, the luckier you are…as long as that luck is Labor Under Correct Knowledge.  The knowledge you need is related to your WHY and the S.M.A.A.R.T. goals you’ve set to live your life in closer alignment with that WHY.  If you do it right, you’ll work harder with more energy and enthusiasm to be luckier and luckier still with every single day that passes.
